Currently Head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit at IRCCS Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute and the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital.

Dr. De Fazio is an expert in regenerative surgery, in particular lipofilling with the use of autologous adipose tissue to increase breast volume and body contour remodelling, facial reconstructive surgery, post-mastectomy breast reconstruction and eyelid surgery. He has performed over a thousand surgeries, spoken at hundreds of international workshops and conferences, he is part of a several scientific committees and has over 70 publications to his credit in medical and scientific magazines and websites.

Representative of Plastic Surgery in Italy
Dr. De Fazio graduated from the University of Modena’s Medical School in Surgery in 1991 with 110/110 and honours. Five years later he specialised in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Milano, again with the highest honours.

In 1994, he transferred to France where he obtained a Diploma in Microsurgery at the University of Bordeaux. He stayed in Bordeaux to fine-tune his technique in Microsurgery at Pellegrin CHU Hospital in the Plastic Surgery, Reconstruction and Aesthetic Surgery Department for Hand Surgery.

From the end of 1999 to the end of 2000 he was First Level Medical Director in the Plastic Surgery Division at San Matteo di Pavia Hospital. From 2004 to 2010 he was Head of the Plastic Surgery Operation Unit at the Salus Hospital Clinic of Reggio Emilia while from 2003 to 2014 he was Assistant in the Plastic Surgery Division with the San Pio X Clinic in Milan.

When not dressed in his surgical attire, he can be seen wearing running shoes, maybe at the New York marathon, in the mountains hiking or off road on his mountain bike. His passion for sports and nature have led him to experience Europe and beyond. In discovering new places and coming face-to-face with different cultures and realities, he has become a true “Citizen of the World” in full harmony with our times of globalization and multiculturalism.

A revolutionary story:
experimentation…

After several years of experimentation and successful use, in 2009, Dr. Domenico De Fazio presented to the public a revolutionary method. Using injections of autologous fat (taken directly from other areas in the patient) it allows a natural (without implants) increase in breast size. The result is maintained over time due to the extraction and centrifugation of stem cells that allow the tissue to take root and favours reproduction. At the time, “Celution” was not widely available. Today, everyone can use lipofilling as an intervention to reshape the silhouette by literally shifting the fat from one region of the body to another.

He gained valuable experience alongside famous names (notably Dr. Andrea Grisotti, in Milan) regarding breast augmentation and breast reconstruction with polyurethane-coated prostheses. He then became one of the first plastic surgeons to adopt the breast lipofilling technique,. Later, he employed a third phase called “SMS Technique” or Sub-Muscular Safe, in which a combination of prosthesis and lipofilling is used for long-lasting, natural and safe results.

Dr. De Fazio is an International Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, member of SICPRE Società Italiana di Chirurgia Plastica Ricostruttiva ed Estetica, and the most important Italian Organisation of Plastic Surger, found din 1934. Membership in the Society now provides a guarantee to those who want to orient themselves in choosing a doctor for cosmetic surgery) and ISAPS International Society of Aestethic Plastic Surgery, the most important plastic surgery society on a world-wide level). Dr. Domenico De Fazio is also a member of ISPRES International Society of Plastic Regenerative Surgery, AICPE Italian Association of Plastic and Aestethic Surgery.
