Mentoplasty (Chin Plastic Surgery)

Mentoplasty or Chin Plastic Surgery is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin and to increase its projection and give a better profile. It is performed under local anesthesia, with sedation if necessary. The traditional way to perform this surgery is by inserting a rigid silicone implant, through either a submental incision (under the chin) or through the mouth (intraoral). The surgeon has to assess the kind of implant to use, which can be more or less projected depending on the desired correction. At present, our surgical team has almost entirely replaced the use of implants with the lipofilling technique.

ANESTHESIA:
local + sedation

TREATMENT LENGTH:
1 hour
STAY IN HOSPITAL:
none
RECOVERY TIME (BACK TO SOCIAL LIFE):
36 hours

The procedure

Mentoplasty by lipofilling consists of a natural and safe procedure using autologous adipose tissue, harvested using thin cannulas by areas of the body with some accumulation of fat like the abdomen or the thighs. Then, the adipose tissue is grafted into the chin using a very thin cannula that leaves no marks.

The grafted adipose tissue is permanent, there are no allergy risks and the result is extremely natural.
Lipofilling can also be repeated if necessary, so the patient can decide to undergo a further enhancement if desired.

After the procedure

After the treatment, the patient is given antibiotic therapy and, then, he/she will be able to perform usual activities immediately.

Some swelling of the treated area might occur for about 36 hours after surgery, as well as some redness that can be easily hidden by make-up.
